5 Health Benefits of Skipping
Want to switch up your workout game and try something new? Skipping may not be everyone’s cup of tea but once you get the hang of it, there are more upsides than downsides to mastering this skill and adding it into your weekly routine!
1. It’s easy cardio
Skipping is a good exercise for burning calories and the best part is that you can have fun while doing it! Jumping rope for 10 minutes can almost be equivalent to a 30-minute run. So, jumping for 10 minutes a few days a week is better than nothing and if you have a rope, you can find somewhere at your house and have a go whenever you have the chance for quick workout.
2. Improves coordination
One of the biggest benefits of skipping is how it can improve your coordination since you must focus on a rhythm and making sure you jump over the rope at the right time. The more often you do it the easier it gets, and coordination is something that can be used for almost everything so it can’t hurt to improve.
3. It’s versatile
It doesn’t matter how good you are, if you manage to jump over the rope then that is good enough to have an efficient workout. Whether you can only go for a few minutes without getting tangled or you can keep going until you can’t anymore, you can still get a good workout out of it. Skipping could be used as a warm-up, within a circuit or just as the workout itself. It is up to you for how long you go – doing 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off or continuous for 10 minutes it is all up to you.
4. Improved stamina
Improved stamina means less fatigue and we could all do with less of that, right?? Skipping can really get your heart going and get you breathing for more air which eventually increases your lungs capacity for oxygen intake. This makes it a good exercise for not only stamina and breathing ability but overall endurance.
5. Better mental health
Skipping releases endorphins - which are the feel-good hormone produced by the body that reduces stress, anxiety and pain. The more often you do it, the better you get which is also just as rewarding.
You can burn calories, have fun and it doesn’t matter where you are because all you need is a rope!
