New Year’s Resolutions With Our Athletes

A new year approaches once more, and for the first time in a long time, it feels more promising.

New Year’s resolutions have never been more crucial as a way to evaluate what’s truly important in your life - so what should we be planning for 2023?

If living through a global pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t take health and wellness for granted. In 2023, zeroing in on your body and mind is a great way to organise your new year goals.

To help inspire you, we caught up with our athletes on their personal goals for 2023. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.

New Year's Resolution Ideas

My New Year’s resolution is to find the right balance between being tough and being kind to myself. A large part of everyone’s fitness journey is the transition from being motivated to being disciplined. I’ve prided myself in continuing to be disciplined, whether it’s pushing myself through a workout or simply turning up to it in the first place. We all come to realise that motivation can only get you so far, ebbing and flowing like waves throughout our journey.

However, sometimes, like all of us, I can be too tough on myself. I set myself unrealistic goals and expectations and don’t give myself the same support I do others who are going through life’s many stresses.

With the new year approaching, I pledge to set myself realistic, achievable goals. I pledge to enjoy the journey and be proud of myself when I succeed. I pledge to ignore the little voice that says ‘I could have done more’, and know that I’m doing my best right now. But most of all, I pledge to keep pushing myself, just with a little more understanding and patience.

My New Year’s resolution for 2023 is to take more time for myself. It’s difficult to let go of life’s obligations and I would like to take the time to take care of myself and my mental health.

I would also like to challenge myself again in sport by starting competitive weightlifting.

My New Year’s resolution is to start my YouTube Channel and be consistent with posting. Something I struggle with is consistency and although I can be more non-consistent on other platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, YouTube works differently. This is something I’ve always wanted to do since I started content creation, but I’ve been so scared. I went out on a limb, I invested all the money I worked so hard for and got myself a camera. Truly the hard work starts now.

Being a First-Generation Latina, content creation isn’t considered a ‘real’ job and I’m here to break those stereotypes in my culture. Now I want to get as many young girls to start lifting because a question I get a lot is ‘If you were 15, what would you change?’ and the only thing I would change is to start lifting sooner to build more muscle.

New Year Goals With Sheila Casco

My New Year’s resolution for 2023 is to give my best in everything I plan to do this year. I’m pretty excited about 2023, as this year will be a huge change and challenge for me. In fact, I’m planning to move to a new county (Spain), where I will have to find a new house, new gym, new healthy routine and most of all, I will have to learn a third language to find my new gym girl buddy.

This year will bring me completely out of my comfort zone, although it won’t be the first time I’ve moved to a new country. What I’ve learned from those experiences is that being out of my comfort zone will make me feel awkward and uncomfortable. However, as soon as I take my first steps out of my comfort zone, I know I’m gonna perform at my best - I’m gonna transform, I’m gonna grow and I will learn a lot about myself and be proud.

Everything you have ever wanted is only one step outside your comfort zone. So, go for it, girls!

My New Year’s resolution for 2023 is to invest in myself more. Education is one of the ways I plan to do this. Certificate programs are a great way to gain practical knowledge, hands-on training and credentials needed to get you started. I’ve received certifications in finance, personal training, business and I would love to add one more to my list and maybe branch off into a new side hustle.

Checking in with myself more often is also another way I plan to invest in myself. I’ve lost way too many friends this year due to mental health illnesses. As I take on new challenges in 2023, my goal will be to always keep my mental health in check.
